Kwara United Faults Nfl
Lagos
The management of Kwara United Football Club has faulted the inclusion of the team among those defaulting in the payment of fines imposed by the Nigerian Football League (NFL) during the first round of the 20-club league season.
The NFL, according to media reports, had reportedly announced the names of 10 clubs it banned from the transfer window, which opened from this week from defaulting in the payment of fines against erring clubs during the just concluded first round.
But Special Assistant on Sports in the state and member of the management team of the club, Zachary Muhammad told newsmen in Ilorin that the football league acted in error by listing the club's name among the defaulting teams.
He claimed that the club had paid the N20, 000 fine imposed on it during its away match with Kano Pillars in Kano, while the club's goal tender, Bassey Akpan, had also served the two-match ban the NFL slammed on him.
"It was a mistake on the part of Salisu Abubakar to have included our club among the clubs defaulting in the payment of fines which, to my knowledge, we have since paid. We have protested our inclusion to the NFL and I can confidently tell you that we are taking part in the transfer window. "So, there is no reason for our club's name to be among those clubs defaulting in the payment of fines," he said.
He revealed that the club had put machinery in place to recruit 10 new players to strengthen its technical capability and place the club in good stead at the end of the season.
The statistics of the new players, according to the governor's aide, shall be a goalkeeper, two defenders, two midfielders and five strikers.
