UW FOOTBALL: Confidence kicks in
Admit it, University of Wisconsin football fans, when it comes to the team's kickers this season, you've got a knot in your stomach the size of a football.
You can't shake the image of that missed 23-yard field-goal attempt in the spring game by sophomore Taylor Mehlhaff. - NFL Football -
You've been burned by too many highly acclaimed kickers in the past and you're not sure if your heart is ready to commit again.
Fortunately, the kicking doctor is available. Pull up a couch and listen to what Chris Sailer has to say about Mehlhaff and prepare to feel a lot better. - NFL Football -
Sailer, a former kicker at UCLA, is kicking guru to some of the top college and high school kickers in the nation, including Mehlhaff.
After what Mehlhaff regarded as a disappointing freshman year, when he handled kickoff duties for the Badgers, followed by an even more discouraging spring, he did what he usually does - continued working hard to perfect his craft. Sailer spent time with Mehlhaff in January, May and July. - NFL Football -
"I know he didn't have the type of fall he wanted last year, or even the type of spring," Sailer said. "So, when he came back this summer, it was obvious he had worked extremely hard. The improvement we saw from May to July was just incredible - it's the biggest jump I've seen him make." - NFL Football -
